Italy, Venezuela to go at it one final time
Second meeting will determine who will advance to second round
The bout, which is the fifth game of Pool C play, will begin at 5 p.m. ET.
Featuring a lineup with little Major League experience, the Italians were able to defeat a Canadian team that boasted a bevy of All-Stars. Hitting-wise, it was nothing short of a David vs. Goliath story.
Italy dropped a 7-0 affair to the Venezuelans on Saturday, however, its win over Canada has obviously instilled a tremendous amount of confidence in the Italian locker room.
"You know, one of the great things about international ball is, it's a one-game final every day," said Italian center fielder Chris Denorfia, who went 4-for-4 with three doubles in Monday's 6-2 win over Canada.
"So on any given day, any team can beat any team. I like the lineup we're throwing out there every day, so I would not count us out."
Italy is expected to send right-hander Adam Ottavino to the hill for the start, while Venezuela will counter with Enrique Gonzalez. The loser of the game will be eliminated, while the winner will take on the U.S. in Wednesday's Pool C finale at 6:30 p.m. ET.
